Chevron Corporation - Mechanical Supervisor - Gulf Coast

Position Overview:

Chevron Africa Latin America Exploration and Production is accepting online applications for the position of Mechanical Supervisor - Gas Circuit located in Houston, Texas through July 30, 2008.

Responsible to lead and manage a team consisting of 13 Technicians as well as a group of 9 Contract staff consisting of crafts such as Welders, Riggers and Boilermakers.

Ensuring all maintenance activities, scheduled and breakdown related, are planned, executed and controlled in the most cost effective manner possible, while complying and with National as well as company regulations and requirements.

MAJOR CHALLENGES:
* Working in a remote location under sometimes trying circumstances with little support base.
* Dealing with, and being converse with the diverse nature of equipment encountered in a GTL facility.
* Having to deal with the lifestyle of a Rotator.

OVERVIEW:
Sasol Chevron is a 50/50 joint venture between Sasol Ltd. in South Africa and Chevron Corporation, charged with building a global GTL business that will generate >US$1B in after tax earnings by 2012 at 15% IRR. Sasol Chevron staffs for leadership only. All major projects are resourced through shareholders' organizations. The Escravos Gas to Liquids (EGTL) Project is one such project; in which Sasol, Chevron and NNPC have formed a Joint Venture to establish a Gas to Liquids (GTL) plant at Escravos in the Niger Delta in Nigeria.

The first 5 months of this assignment will entail working out of the Houston offices assisting the PMT followed by a rotation based out of the Lekki Offices (+-12 months) to establish and develop all the systems required to create a functional operational business, such as an all encompassing maintenance strategy, the configuration of the CMMS system and the identification of the spare parts required during the operational phase of the project. During CPDEP Phase 5 the job will change into a rotational assignment in Escravos, Nigeria where the focus will be to all maintenance activities, including planning and controlling work in accordance with the Maintenance Strategy, and the provision of technical support to the Operations Team is also critical to this job. It will require excellent problem solving skills and the ability to thrive in a remote location, with limited resources and the ability to deal effectively with a diverse work force.
Key Job Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

Responsibility for the integrity, reliability and availability of all electrical equipment in the plant
Perform punch-outs, commissioning checks and quality control

Review and do QA on construction work of Engineering Contractors and suppliers

Ensure that all work is done in accordance with the relevant specifications, regulations and standards

Perform maintenance duties; routine, scheduled and breakdown and shutdown related

Assist in the planning and prioritization of activities

Act as mentor for inexperienced peers and contract staff

Basic Qualifications:

- Relocation benefits will not be considered.

- Expatriate Assignment will be considered.

- Qualifications: Recognized Mechanical Trade

Selection Criteria:

- Minimum of 10 years of relevant Maintenance Management experience in a Petrochemical facility or Refinery

- Knowledge and experience in the Maintenance of all types of Rotating Mechanical equipment encountered in a GTL plant

- Knowledge and experience in the development and implementation of maintenance strategies and the planning and execution of shutdowns

- Codes and Standards used in petrochemical / chemical Industries

- Relevant safety standards for Mechanical Equipment

- Failure Analysis and Root Cause Analysis of all failures

- Knowledge of process plants, such as ATR, ASU, Hydro cracking and FT

- Routine functional checks (equipment health checks) on rotating mechanical equipment

- Good working knowledge and experience on pumps, compressors and other rotating equipment
