Position Description:
This position can be located in either the Durham, NC or Arlington, VA office. As a part of the FHI Planning, Development & Communications (PDC) Team, this position will play a critical role in developing and overseeing implementation of FHI’s overall business plan, including the development of critical partnerships and alliances, as well as overseeing the FHI fundraising strategy. Building and then leading a small team, the Director will build on current FHI activities in this area, with a focus on the following: - overseeing the development and facilitating the implementation of FHI‘s global business plan; - establishing, maintaining and enhancing FHI’s partnerships and alliances with a variety of organizations and individuals including funders, private sector companies, individuals and others who are aligned with FHI’s mission and vision; - establishing and overseeing FHI’s fundraising strategy; and, - working closely with the Communications team to ensure harmonized implementation of the PDC operational plan. The Director will be expected to develop strong relations with both US and country-based staff, and also to build partnership building, business planning and business development capacity across FHI staff. As part of the External Relations team, the Director will be expected to work closely with the Director of Communications, as well as the leadership of the Global Operations, Information Programs, and Resource Development teams as well as the FHI Executive and Senior Teams.

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s and Master’s degree with over 10 years of related work experience and/or equivalent combination of education and experience in business planning, strategy development, partnership building, and communication. Prior experience working in the private sector, with sensitivity towards its application to the international development environment is preferred.
